Time Travel Art Machine: The Clash!

The king told the boogie man...

Back in October 2019 as a personal project I did what I called ‘Rocktober’ where I made a different music-themed painting every day. One of my two favorites (you’ll see the other one next week!) was this, a sort-of movie poster for the video to The Clash’s Rock the Casbah.

The Clash are one of my very favorite bands. I love their subject matter, their constant evolution and experimentation and their overall authenticity. One thing of note for this painting versus the video: I included Nicky “Topper” Headon as the drummer instead of Terry Chimes, who is in the video. Topper was the drummer on the song but was ousted from the band just prior to the album’s release. I’m not making any kind of statement about any of that, I don’t know these people, it was just a decision I made in the moment when putting the composition together.

I believe this is also the only time I’ve painted an armadillo.
