Time Travel Art Machine: Sister Abigail
You've never seen this before. You may wish you never had.
Back in 2014 Wyndham Rotunda aka Bray Wyatt reached out to me to make a painting of the Sister Abigail entity for a vignette they were going to film. I had a really tight turn-around to get it made, around 48 hours if I remember correctly.
I turned to my studiomates at the time, photographer Paul Andrews and his artist wife Sonya to help me with this. I brought over a rocking chair that my grandfather had caned and we photographed Sonya wearing an antique dress she had, obscuring her face in shadow to keep the mystery of Sister Abigail.
The original painting was made with acrylic paint and some spray paint on a piece of 30” x 40” canvas. I shipped it down the the Florida swamps and…it wasn’t used. I was never given a specific reason but I guess it didn’t quite fit into what they were doing with the shoot. If you’ve ever been involved with anything like this, you know that it’s kind of a miracle anything makes it to broadcast. Just the way of things.
Wyndham held onto the painting and last I heard he had it in his man cave. He may have had to move it because he told me it kept terrifying his kids and making them cry. True story.
Probably the piece I’m proudest of that up until now has never been seen. I’m proud that I turned something like this out in the short timeline I had.
Love you more,
Rob
