Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. Figured out I went the wrong route, so I got with a sick-ass clique and went all out.
WORDS
Paul Heyman. The Usos. Roman Reigns. The Bloodline.
My first piece of this undeniable force was done in black and greyscale so for this time around I decided to go all-out with color and no black ink at all. I used all of the more recent tools and techniques I’ve been experimenting with for the past few months, trying to continue to grow and make the most of it. I like how the layers of colors and design elements all play off of each other, personally.

WHAT I LIKED LAST WEEK
Barry Season Three paid off on all of the good faith I’d placed in it. Without spoiling anything, first I just want to say that Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau is a revelation all the way through to the season finale. Second, I’m really impressed by how much visual storytelling is happening in the show. It’s not one where you can be messing around on your phone while the show plays, you need to actually watch it. The closest comparison I can think of is No Country For Old Men. So much happens with visual cues and character reactions beyond just dialogue. Great stuff.
I went into Golden Boy: Beethoven’s Youth by Mikael Ross with high hopes and wasn’t let down at all. Ross’ prior graphic novel ‘The Thud’ was one of the singular best things I’ve ever read and I was delighted that he somehow upped his game with this biographical look at a young Ludwig van Beethoven. I knew a few factoids about Beethoven but this charming look at the man’s childhood, home life and medical challenges was enlightening. Plus there’s several things Ross does visually to try to evoke music that I found fascinating, making it more about how the music affects the listener than trying to describe what’s happening sonically. It’s rather inspired, honestly.
The Treasure of the Black Swan by Guillermo Corral and Paco Roca is a deft modern take on the treasure hunter genre. I consider Roca to be one of the best cartoonists working today and this book definitely solidified that opinion for me. A treasure-hunting company finds a 200-year sunken ship full of treasure and the Spanish government challenges them over ownership of the remains. There’s car chases, hurricanes, romance, and shadowy government operatives aplenty.

YOU GOOD?
A lot of WWE-related news happened in the past week. I’m not informed enough nor in a position to comment on any of it and am instead taking the position of closing my mouth and opening my ears.
The one notable thing I -do- want to talk about was Saturday morning when I was in the elevator for the parking garage, there was a father and son with me. The young kid was carrying a Money in the Bank briefcase so I asked, “Are you a Drew McIntyre fan?”
He looked at his dad for permission to answer, his pops nodded and he turned back to smile and say, “Yes!”
So I handed him a signed print of Drew and said, “Now you’ve got something to put in that briefcase!” The elevator door opened and we went our separate ways.
Love you more,
Rob
