Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. To burn my kingdom you must use fire.
WHAT’S NEW?
I’m mostly done with The Rock now and next up is the Texas Rattlesnake himself, Stone Cold Steve Austin! I’m very happy with how Rock is popping off the composition, yet still feeling like a part of it. It’s fun seeing a plan come together. I may do something a touch stylistic to finish it off, but I’m waiting to see how it ‘reads’ once I’ve painted in Austin so I didn’t add those elements to Rock yet.
Making art’s pretty fun.
ICYMI, here's last week's Canvas 2 Canvas episode. Turned out pretty snazzy in my opinion.

WHAT I LIKED THIS WEEK
I finished reading The Power of Shazam volume 2 by Jerry Ordway and Peter Krause a few days ago. It’s so fun revisiting this series, which is a fun superhero romp that doesn’t get too hung up on itself. I hope DC finishes collecting the series, because it’s some of my personal favorite the genre has to offer.
IDW’s Star Trek Library Collection volume 1 is (obviously) the first in their new series of collections of all of their Trek comics. This contains their three prequel series to the JJ Abrams movies and tells the stories of what happened between Spock and Nero to cause them to go back in time, and how it involved Picard, Data, LaForge and Worf. Cool stuff! It’s also got a nice story about how Spock found out Kirk passed away, which is a really touching bit.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 premiered on Thursday and it’s definitely my favorite Trek since The Next Generation and Deep Space 9. The cast is fantastic, the stories told are compelling and it looks fantastic. I love that the ‘A’ stories are pretty much one-and-done and the ‘B’ stories are where there’s a continuing narrative through the season. It’s a deft balance of the original spirit of the franchise but still relevant to modern viewers.
A couple months ago I started watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine here and there, mostly for evenings when I was done working a little before Katy or to put on during lunch. I hadn’t watched the series when it originally aired, so it was cool seeing how the characters evolved, as well as the seismic changes that happened in our culture reflected over the course of its run. I also adored the annual events of the Halloween Heists and Doug Judy.
I caught up on the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia yesterday morning. With everything going on in my personal life the past few weeks I’d missed that it had returned, so this was a welcome surprise! ‘Frank Shoots Every Member of the Gang’ is a classic.
I’m not caught up yet but The Other Two season 3 is OUTSTANDING. They veered into some incredible surrealist comedy that I was not prepared for and they keep ratcheting it up. Like…one of them goes into outer space in an episode called ‘Brooke, and We Are Not Joking, Goes to Space’. And yet it somehow all feels natural to the characters.
BONUS! Here’s a 1973 episode of The Midnight Special with Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, the Doobie Brothers, George Jones, Tammy Wynette and more! Bobby Darin GETS DOWN, man. I had no idea.
But what I liked the most this week was…
He was riveted by the implosion of The Bloodline Friday night on SmackDown. I’m not kidding, this was taken during that segment.
YOU GOOD?
Monday Katy and I welcomed Tikka Masala Schamberger home. He’s a feisty and sweet little orange dude and we love him lots. Friday evening I let him out of the bedroom where we’ve kept him sequestered so that he and Kima can slowly get acquainted in a positive way and it went really well. They’re not best friends yet, but we’ll get there I feel.
His hair feels like an angora sweater so we’re calling him our wooly mammoth. He’s got a huge rambunctious energy but he’s a good guy and fitting right in with us, especially when he jumps up on me, farts, and trots away. My man.
Love you more,
Rob
