WORDS  

I love that Sheamus has become the measuring stick within WWE. Like the signs at amusement parks that say, “You must be this tall to ride,” with up-and-coming WWE Superstars it’s like, “You must be this tough to fight!” It’s one thing to say you’re the toughest around, or the hardest-hitting, it’s even another thing to prove that against everyone else, but it’s quite something else to prove it against Sheamus.

With this new piece, I did an initial layer of masking fluid for the areas on his face I wanted staying white, then a wash of colored ink as a light mid-tone. Then I put in a few hundred lines with technical pens and a brush pen, building value through the size of the lines and their closeness to each other. I had all of the lines running parallel vertically, giving almost an effect of Sheamus raining down pain on his opponent.

WHAT I LIKED LAST WEEK

These Re:Action figures for The Beastie Boys’ Sabotage music video came in and they’re stupid AF and I love everything about them. I’m not a toy guy at all, I have no idea what I’ll do with them, but I’m fully enamored as a lifelong B-Boys fan.

Reboot on Hulu is brilliant and hilarious. Starring Paul Reiser, Keegan Michael Key, WrestleMania Legend Johnny Knoxville, and so many more, the concept is that a young writer is brought in to Hulu to pitch a show and she says she want to do a continuation/reboot of a 20 year-old sitcom, bringing back all of the original actors and putting a modern dramatic spin on the show. But…there’s a REASON she wants to do this that I don’t want to spoil but it’s SO GOOD. So it’s a show about making a show, while also being about the show-within-the-show. It’s meta, it’s clever and it left me laughing hard.

The Audible Original for Cut and Run by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker is a fun listen. Kidney thieves, the cartel, secret agents, werewolf children and a quinceanera.

YOU GOOD?  

The heat finally broke for the season here in Kansas City, so I moved my studio back upstairs (aka Studio North, as it’s on the north side of the house). I migrate my workspace depending on the weather, as we’re in an old house and the upstairs gets HOT in the Summer. Plus, as the Earth’s orbit around the sun wobbles, the light begins to shine right in in my downstairs sunroom studio (aka Studio South. I’ll let you guess why it’s called that.) making it nearly impossible to see what I’m working on.

So Thursday I moved everything back upstairs and the cats are VERY happy about this because they love it up there. I also enjoy getting a different environment twice a year. Keeps things fresh for me.
