Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. Might seem a little far-fetched but why would I lie to you?
WORDS
“Perfect!” Curt Hennig, known within the WWE Universe as Mr Perfect is remembered as one of the very best to ever do it. Bell-to-bell, on the mic, the outstanding vignettes and even a country song here and there, he always performed at the highest levels.
With this new acrylic painting of Mr Perfect I set out to do my best to live up to the legend of my subject, giving you the very best painting possible. I’m particularly happy with the how the warm and cool color palette worked out, especially without using any white paint this time as a challenge.
Curt’s figure was painted using three coats: The first to block in the colors to see how they worked together, the second with a flat brush to create more energy and soften up the boundaries between colors, and then the third with a detail brush as well as a filbert grainer brush to put in all of those fun textural little lines.
I’ll let you decide if it’s to the quality of work Mr Perfect did during his incomparable career!
ICYMI, here's last week's Canvas 2 Canvas episode. Tomorrow's landmark episode will go up on WWE's YouTube channel at 11AM CST! It’ll be the 450th! episode. Exclamation points!!!!

SCHAMBERGER LABS: THE SERIES!
The next Wrestling Landscape Painting will be Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart from WrestleMania XII! It’s penciled out and I should begin painting on it in the next couple of weeks. I know, I’ve been teasing you too much on this. But it’s happening I swear!
A koi swimming through water with sun and palm trees reflecting on its surface ain’t the easiest thing to paint, I’ve discovered.
BACK IN HAWAII
Katy and I were fortunate enough to be welcomed back to Hawaii this year through her work. Last year we were in Kauai and this year we’re on the big island. While she works nonstop providing social media for a conference I’m wandering around the resort, taking pictures and making personal paintings like the ones above.
It’s pretty rough but I manage.
Also, I wasn’t ready for how delicious fresh pineapple is. I make a point of getting it with my breakfast, as I learned last year. It’s like how there’s a noticeable difference between store eggs and farm eggs, it’s the same thing. Everyone (rightfully) talks about how gorgeous the Hawaiian islands are, but there needs to be more talk about how special fresh pineapple is.
I climbed out onto a flow of lava rock to get this sunset picture on Friday. A sea turtle made its way into that tide pool in the bottom left and I almost cried at the beauty of it all.
YOU GOOD?
No, I still have no idea what’s going on at WWE because it’s none of my business. None of this (whatever is or is not happening) is affecting me at this point, and there’s actually current negotiations at the moment to broaden my presence. That could all change at any moment, but that’s always the way it is. Thanks to everyone who’s reached out to make sure I’m good, and yes, I’m good. And lordamighty please don’t believe everything you read on social media.
Okay. Back to the good stuff.
I worked through last weekend so that I could finish the Mr Perfect painting and leave myself some time to get started on my new Cody Rhodes painting before we flew out on Thursday. I had hoped to finish the Mr Perfect on Monday but I’d had a heavy few days so I finished it Tuesday morning instead which was okay.
Thursday morning our Uber driver to the airport was like a 60 year-old Otto from The Simpsons, talking about his car club and his various automobiles the whole way to the airport. Then we flew to Seattle and had about a three hour layover before flying to Hawaii. Door-to-door it was about 16 hours of travel, but descending into Hawaii we got this outstanding sunset:
Friday morning I made my way out of the room and it’s like Dorothy stepping out of the house and into Munchkinland, seeing Hawaii, hearing it, smelling the salt on the air from the waves crashing against the lava rock.
REAL QUICK: Next week’s newsletter will be a little different, more akin to our conversational ones that used to go up on Thursdays as I’m beginning my cadence of releasing new paintings every other week instead of weekly. We’ll get used to it.
After 450 weeks straight of making at least one new painting every week, I reckon I’ve proven myself by now.
Love you more,
Rob
