Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. In his eyes, an ocean’s burning.
WORDS
I love it when a professional wrestler gives me a lot to work with visually and Megan Bayne is definitely giving just that. She already has an impressive look but then she takes it to another level with such an impressive warrior persona in her entrance attire topped off by her unique winged headpiece. It’s just COOL looking, which as a painter gives me a huge head start on where to go with a portrait.

ART I LIKE
NEW FEATURE! I thought it’d be fun to share a little bit of art that I like with you in each Thursday’s newsletter. I’ve amassed a pretty good library of art books and if there’s one thing I love, it’s art.
First up is one I bought somewhat recently, Taschen’s Caravaggio: The Complete Works. It was after my trip to Florence, Italy where Caravaggio spent time honing his craft that I grew to fully appreciate his work, seeing a few pieces in person.
I’d admired it for a long time, as we have one of his primary works, St. John the Baptist in the Wilderness here at the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City. It’s a marvel to study in person:
Look at how his left leg slips back into the shadows! You can see that it’s clearly an inspiration for the paintings I’m doing for my Human Needs series.
Another one that somehow I only learned about recently is Supper at Emmaus:
Just LOOK at how dynamic this is! That arm and hand gripping the chair in the foreground is outstanding, and then the outstretched hand on the far right and the way the fabric of the sleeve is draped is uncanny. The composition, the lighting, the hidden meanings sprinkled throughout from the story this is based on, this is a stunner.
Inadvertent primary color scheme.
BOOZE, DUDE!
I bottled up my first batch of home-brewed mead on Tuesday! Exciting stuff.
It’s not quite ready to drink yet, still needs to sit in the bottles for a week or two, but then it should be good to go. I read that it’s pretty dry, and after getting a small taste from siphoning it into the bottles that’s accurate. My reading recommends adding a little honey, juice or fresh berries to a glass for sweetening if I plan to drink it soon. I bet some fresh mint would be delightful too, and we have some growing wild in the back yard so that works out.
I’ll let you know how it goes!
I’m planning to keep two of the bottles in the basement until the fall to let it mellow and see how that goes. I’m not in a hurry, as all of this is about the process for me and not so much the end result.
Also, how about this terrifying vision of a monster reflected in the bottles?
RAHR!
Love you more,
Rob
