Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. Action speaks louder than words.
WORDS
For Halloween I thought it’d be fun to do an acrylic painting of Mankind, notably the early terrifying version of Mick Foley’s infamous alter ego. Taking inspiration from the classic Famous Monsters artist Basil Gogos to create this love letter and homage to his work, while putting Mankind firmly among the monstrous pantheon of Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman.
It’s a take on Mankind that I hadn’t really thought of doing, but when the idea hit me it seemed like such a natural fit. It’s fascinating how such a colorful palette can still create such a chilling visual, but as the Mankind persona evolved that kind of speaks true to him, doesn’t it?

SCHAMBERGER LABS: THE SERIES!
This week I focus on the carnage strewn across the floor, notably on the battered Money in the Bank briefcase. For a complicated painting like this Roman Reigns Wrestling Landscape piece, these little details and the story around them, while seemingly insignificant on their own greatly inform the overall composition.
Here’s how it looks so far:
Three-ish weeks to go on this, I think!
In a few weeks you’re going to say, “Oh, THAT’S what that picture was!” but right now I’m just being vague.
YOU GOOD?
Somehow, some way, I made it happen.
This was…I think my third week with no days off, ten-twelve hours a day? I’m not bragging here, more just writing it out for myself to see. Between my normal business operations and release schedule, working ahead for this week’s much-needed vacation, and the Super Secret Important Project happening this has been how things have shaken out.
In addition to the Super Secret Important Project and its various paintings, I had to finish up today’s Mankind painting, next week’s Ava Raine (it’s a fun one), and try to stay on my schedule for the Roman Reigns SummerSlam piece. The latter was something that I thought would have to be pushed back a couple weeks but I somehow managed to get everything else done AND this week’s and next week’s progress.
But friend, it’s taken a toll and it’s got me thinking about changing a few things up down the line in a positive way. I don’t know. It’s still early days and I’m getting my head around it.
But, like, what if I took my time on paintings instead of just hitting self-imposed deadlines? What would that look like? How would that affect the rest of my operations?
Interesting questions to ponder on.
But that’s for Future Rob to answer. Present Rob is currently on a jet plane with his lovely wife Katy to go sit on a beach and do absolutely nothing else. It’s our first vacation for the two of us since January 2020 and we’re going to do it right.
My personal vacation philosophy is to focus solely on relaxing and my best way of doing that is sitting on a beach all day and watching the water. No seeing of sights, no touristing, no schedules or plans. Just sitting and letting all of the stress of life slip away with the tide.
For the next few days? I’m doing exactly that. See you on the other side.
Love you more,
Rob
