Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. For it's the end of history, it's caged and frozen still.
WORDS
As someone who likes to paint rad things, Konosuke Takeshita’s oni mask definitely gave me something rad to paint. It’s a traditional design that I’ve long been enamored with and it’s cool to incorporate it here. I used some muted earthy warm colors for the mask and some almost neon colors for Takeshita himself to create some dichotomy between the two subjects, but then used some Payne’s Gray for the deeper shadows on both to unify the composition. I think it gives it a nice ethereal feeling.

FOOD, DUDE!
Tuesday night I made this sweet and spicy baked ziti, subbing veggie crumbles for the meat and added some extra chopped fresh mushrooms. It was a super easy dish to put together, especially using the crumbles instead of the meat which cuts the prep time down considerably. Instead of cooking the ‘meat’ up separately, the crumbles cook fast so I added them to the sauce shortly before adding the cream.
It didn’t quite have the fullness of flavor I was after. Talking it over with Katy, next time I’d probably do something like cutting an onion or a green pepper in half and letting it sit in the sauce during the simmering stage and possibly add some red wine vinegar as well. A little acidity does a lot to take a dish over the top. Still, it’s super yummy and gives me some ideas with an experiment I plan to make next week.
Love you more,
Rob
