Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. I'm not alone in reaching for a perfect life.
WORDS
Sometimes I have an idea for a painting and hope it comes out the way I want, and occasionally it turns out far cooler. That’s what happened with this Kenny Omega piece. It’s one of those that could have fallen far short or gone off the rails, due to its overall minimalist nature, but through a combination of luck and skill it stayed together and ended up surprising me.
With watercolor, it’s sort of a controlled chaos, especially when using the technique called ‘wet in wet’. That’s where you apply a layer of water in an area, and then add the watercolor within that space. The pigment will spider out and settle in fun and unexpected ways and it’s only through repetition that an artist can begin to at least have an expectation for what it will look like once it dries. Luckily for this piece that worked out!

FOOD, DUDE!
Monday night I made this outstanding lasagna recipe. It was my first time using a food processor, which Katy was kind enough to guide me through. I made a few modifications to the recipe, but small. I added some baby bella mushrooms, four cloves of garlic and also a healthy pull of my homemade red wine vinegar to the veggie mix. I used a store-bought jar of arrabiata sauce instead of making the sauce the recipe called for, as our store was out of fresh basil. Plus the sauce I get is genuinely good and it shaved about 15 minutes off the prep time. Keep in mind that this, like most recipes, wasn’t accurate on the prep time. It was probably 45 minutes instead of 30, mostly due to the vegetable chopping and cheese grating. Also, the zucchini will create a lot of moisture when you saute it, so bring the temperature up a bit for the last few minutes to evaporate it before you put the veggie mix in the processor.
All that said, this was truly delicious dish. Katy said it was the first lasagna she’s ever had that she’ll actually crave. I’m really interested by mixing the pureed cottage cheese in with the veggie mix and how that worked as a layer in the lasagna. Delightful!
After eating it, we started brainstorming on ways to utilize this veggie mix that’s been run through the processor. Off the top of my head, mixing it with some cream cheese and spread over flour tortillas would make awesome rollups/pinwheels. Another thought was adding it into an egg salad recipe. I’ll let you know how those go!
Love you more,
Rob
