When I first started working with AEW I naturally took at look at the people whose looks best matched my approach to making art and Julia Hart is definitely in that Venn Diagram! That mix of darkness and beauty is where I can make my paint brushes sing and I feel like I did just that with this piece.
I’ve been experimenting with black watercolor a lot more lately. It’s a temperamental beast but I think I’m finally coming around on ways to effectively use it and I especially feel that way with this painting.

There’s a lot of amazing things about Kima, but one of my favorites is that she instinctively stays off of my paintings when she jumps up on the drawing table. She just wants to hang out and get occasional scritches. It’s not something I had to train her on, she just did it on her own. She’s our queen and we love her.
