Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. You turned this lie to truth.
WORDS
For this new Drew McIntyre painting I gave myself the assignment of making something featuring a big dude with a big sword and a lot of fire and friend, I think I understood the assignment. I wanted to make the most rad painting possible of Drew and yeah, I feel like I nailed it.
The natural inclination with his is to do a 70’s-style sword-and-sorcery piece, like you’d see on a VHS cover or the side of a van. And listen, I’m not saying I won’t do that next but I wanted to do something more speed metal and less classic rock, you know? I wanted to hit those power chords and simply let the painting be a banger.
I’ll leave it up t the painting to let you know if I accomplished my goal or not.

WHAT I LIKED LAST WEEK
The Forgotten Blade by Tze Chun and Toni Fejzula is a gorgeous sorta-scifi sorta-fantasy book. I’ve enjoyed Chun’s other books through TKO Presents and his strong writing carried through again here. But man, Fejzula’s artwork is divine throughout.
We finished watching Hacks season two the other night, which I believe is the end of the series and if so, they stuck that landing perfectly. I overall enjoyed the first season more, but there were great moments throughout this season and the finale was tremendous. Bravo to all involved!
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Who’s your favorite superhero? With the trailer for Rock ‘The John’ Dwayneson’s ‘Black Adam’ out this past week, I thought it’d be fun to give this original painting of ol’ Dewey I made back in 2013 out to one of my rad paid subscribers at random! All that you have to do is leave a comment using the handy button below.
I feel like Superman is my personal all-time favorite. Even at a time when concepts like “Truth”, “Justice” and “the American way” are more nebulous than ever, having a totem of someone who has all of Superman’s powers, an immigrant from a far-away land who works as a journalist, that uses his abilities only to help others is maybe more powerful than ever. Recently in the comics he publicly revealed his ‘secret identity’ and having done the same myself lately, yeah, he’s my guy.
Which superhero is your personal favorite?
SCHAMBERGER LABS: THE SERIES!
While working on my epic new painting of Charlotte Flair, I answer some viewer questions and share some thoughts on negative cottage industries that grow around successful endeavors. Plus a Kima cameo!
Paid tier members can see each episode a week early!
YOU GOOD?
I’ve been struggling quite a bit myself of late. I’m working on it in therapy and with Katy, so I won’t bum you out with the details. Watching the January 6 Committee hearing on Thursday night was enough of a trauma dump, after all.
If you’re also facing down hard times, I just want to tell you that what you’re feeling is real and valid in a way that’s specific to you and your life.
So. Onto some good stuff! My pals at El Segundo Brewing Company reached out to have me paint the labels for their new ‘Hop City Express’ collaboration with Ogopogo Brewing. The concept was to do 80’s action b-movie posters, but set in a brewery. Yo, I was born for that!
On social their customers are giving really positive feedback on the labels, which is cool. Each company is releasing their own version so I got to do two paintings. Of course this all came up while I was on deadline for a WWE project, had just traveled, Katy was out of town, I caught a (non-Covid) stomach bug and had a separate Covid scare but I still managed to get these both done as well. That was a nutso week.
These will be available in stores this coming week, I’m told. I should get my own in the next few days as well, so I’ll give you a full review on that stuff inside the cans!
Love you more,
Rob
