Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. So go and live a little.
WORDS
For this new Hangman Adam Page painting I wanted to get across his anger and rage. I focused in on one of his eyes and his open, yelling mouth while being purposefully less-defined for the rest, almost like it’s out of focus. Doing that brings his intensity right up in your face.

‘Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio’ by JH Williams III
ART I LIKE
There’s a few artists out there who operate at a wildly different level than most everyone else, and at the top of the list in the comic book sphere in my opinion is JH Williams III. There’s a lot that goes into being a good comic book artist and Williams is someone who does them all GREAT. Draftsmanship, panel layout, mastery of mediums, readability, believable characters, he nails all of it.
‘Batwoman’ by JH Williams III
I first saw his work when he did a fill-in on Batman, followed by the criminally-underrated series Chase. He fully came into his own soon after that collaborating with Alan Moore on Promethea, a book that truly hit me on a molecular level. He started doing wildly innovative panel layouts and pushing his style beyond anything I’ve seen before or since.
After Promethea he had a groundbreaking-yet-short run on Batwoman (pictured above) that didn’t look or feel like anything else in mainstream superhero comics. That went to an arc collaborating with Grant Morrison on Batman that took that innovation even further.
‘Echolands’ by JH Williams III
His work now is the wonderfully chaotic Echolands, where he’s mixing a variety of styles and techniques to match the story of several narratives and genres all coexisting in the same world. There’s a gorgeous hardback collection of the first arc out now and the second is currently serializing from Image Comics. Worth checking out if you like looking at beautiful things and being transported to worlds beyond your imagination!
Look at that belly.
